It was quite hard at the beginning to take pictures of Liberians – when I was asking if I am allowed to, there was no answer following, and people just stared at me without any smile on their faces or reaction. In a while it became clear to me that this stare means “yes”, moreover, it was a privilege for people to be photographed. As for kids, there were two categories, the first one was jumping and smiling all around you, and the second one was a way too serious, as you can see on this picture. And such stares were frightening, it looked like these kids lived a long life of 50 years at least – and maybe they did?
